I should be working hard, but I just can't seem to get my head into it. I guess my attention has faded after all that has happened this last week. Let me explain.
On Friday my wife came home feeling under the weather. By late Friday night she felt so poorly she didn't go to my soccer game. Granted it was a late game, 11:15pm start time, but she usually goes anyway. Just to keep me company on the drive. The game was really good. Well played with few if any fouls. In the end we lost by one goal that was scored in the last 40 seconds of the game. So it was a fun, evenly matched game that could have gone either way. I guess it says something about my age when playing and enjoying the game means more than winning.
Saturday the wife was still pretty sick. I encouraged her to go to the doctor but she would hear none of that. She spent the whole day either in bed or in front of the T.V. laying on the couch. I did a little clean up around the house and kept busy trying to let her sleep as much as possible. Sunday was the same until about 3:00pm when she asked me to take her to the doctor. We went to doc-in-the-box where they said she had a virus infection and there was not much they could do about it except let it run it's course. They did give her something for the cough, some kind of anti-cough pill, but that was it. Spent Sunday night watching her sleep.
Monday she stayed home, which turned out to be a blessing for me. She slept late and about 1:00pm got up, took a shower, and got dressed. Made her feel better but she still was not up to snuff. Then around 3:00pm I had a kidney stone move. If you have ever had kidney stones you know how much pain I was in. If not just think of the worst pain you have ever had, then multiply it by 10 and you get someplace close to where I was. I took some hydrocodone to stop the pain but that didn't even put a dent in it. After screwing with my doctors office for a while we decided the best thing was to go to the emergency room and get some REAL pain drugs. So here is my sick wife taking me to the emergency room for pain. Not to say I was in a lot of pain but when we got there the room was filled with people waiting to be seen. I went from the check-in to the back room immediately, no waiting for me. After what must have been at least 10 years someone finally inserted an IV and pumped me full of drugs. Pain gone, I am good to go. Well doctors being who they are I was taken for an MRI and low and behold guess what? I had a kidney stone that had moved. So they prescribe me some good pain pills and send me home telling me to be sure and make my next day appointment with my doctor. Had enough drugs in me that I slept most all of Monday night but my poor wife was up every hour checking on me.
Tuesday dawned fine for me. The stone had settled into a position that didn't hurt anymore so I was good to go. My wife decided she felt good enough to go to work for at least part of the day. I made my appointment and was told "yep, you have a stone that is trying to move." Problem is it's just on the edge of being too large to pass. It is now partly blocking my kidney. So the deal is they give me drugs to try and reduce the size of the stone by a little, and drugs to try and open up my veins a little, and I drink anything and everything in site and hopefully it will pass. If it does not move in the next week then we have to do something drastic to get rid of it. Drastic in this case has to do with lasers inside your body.
So here it is Wednesday, I am getting up to pee every 15 minutes and slamming down liquids in between. So far I am pain free and the wife is back at work. I worked late yesterday trying to make up the work I had neglected Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning and now I don't have much initiative at all. To top it off I just got an IM telling me they want a conference call sometime today and hang around until they decide they are ready. No going to work out at the gym for lunch until AFTER the call. Oh well, I guess that's why they pay me the medium bucks. Also got an email telling me we have a bye this weekend in soccer so I guess things are looking up. Not sure I wanted to play this week with the stone and all. But what the heck, as long as it doesn't hurt I can continue with my life. I refuse to live it laying around waiting for something to happen. If the stone moves and hurts I will deal with it then, until that time I will just go about my business remembering of course to keep pain drugs with me at all times.
